A loan helped a female-owned, new business, Thimble Tape, exhibit at shows in order to grow!

Jessica's story

I have been sewing since I was 4 years old when my grandmother taught me how to sew and knit. I fell in love with the calming, healing and meditative nature of stitching and needlework. I turned it into my career and I started teaching textiles and stitching to children, adults as well as textile therapy to mental health patients. I went through a medical trauma which left me with very bad medical PTSD. Stitching has helped me personally and I have seen the change it has made in my thousands of students over the years. I am driven everyday by the positive impact that I have seen the benefits that needlework brings to the thousands of people who I have taught (including myself): it builds confidence, improves fine motor skills, helps to heal PTSD, creates strong social bonds in such a technology driven society, improves memory and gives people a sense of joy and accomplishment.

I wanted to perfect the process of stitching and needlework making it easier and painless without the needle pokes and hand fatigue. Thimbles do not work for most people and are not an option for most types of needlework. I developed a reformulated type of coated tape that is puncture resistant, non-toxic, flexible, moldable, colorful and protects long and short nails as well as your fingers so you can keep your manicure as you stitch. I used this for my own work and with my students for over 10 years until I saw how much it benefitted both my adult and child students so much and decided that I want to get my Thimble Tape™ to everyone!

I called my girlfriend, Aiden, who has worked in luxury retail for many years and finance before that, and told her that we should do this together as our combined experiences would make this a successful business.
When Aiden and I met, she had helped me merchandise a large booth at a big thrift convention for a company that I was running. Together, we ended up being one of the most successful booths at the convention. Since then, we have always supported each other and known that we wanted to start a business together.
