Yogie's story

"Health is wealth" is a phrase we often hear, besides being a catchy slogan, it has a lot of weight to me, my family, and my community. My name is Yogie Kanagaraajah, and I am the CEO and Founder of Sano Snacks. I first came to America known as the land of hope and dreams in 1986 and have been proud to call New York City my home for the last 38 years. Within the last 38 years, I have seen a lot and done many things, that a young boy from Mannar, Sri Lanka would have never imagined possible, however, what I am most proud of is the family I've created.

I am a big believer, that with family, anything is possible. When I first set foot in the Big Apple, I immediately absorbed myself in the culture around me—music, art, history, and most importantly food. I began my journey as a chef, learning how food shapes the lives of people around us. Food has always been to me more than just a way of satisfying hunger or a craving. Whether at the dinner table back home in Sri Lanka or the dinner table in Queens, food to me was about the people sharing the meal with me, and I don't just mean the people that I am sitting alongside.

As a young boy in Sri Lanka, I have been fortunate enough to watch the journey that food takes on its way to our plates. This is thanks to the many farmers who make meals possible. Food to me is also about giving back to the people who are working hard to serve us. When I think about what matters most to me, it's serving families healthy snack options, while ensuring that they are ethically sourced. When I close my eyes and imagine myself as a young father, I would have only wanted my children to receive the best, and I still do to this day. To serve healthy snacking options to families while ensuring that the farmers who help feed our country are also taken care of is why I started Sano Snacks.

Over the past 4 years, we have been a family-owned business. My two sons, my wife, along myself, have been running Sano Snacks, and it's been a blessing to know that what we've been doing has been making a difference in the world.
