Mrs. Rosalie R. is from the Barangay of Carmen Annex, Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental. Rosalie is the group leader of a two-member group loan offered by Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC). While both members of the group would receive an individual loan, they would be collectively responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group member if one of them is delinquent or defaults. The official name of this borrowing group is Rosalie R.’s Group.

Rosalie is a married, 35-year-old woman who is blessed with one school-age child. To earn a living, she is engaged in the agriculture industry. Specifically, she produces seaweed (locally known as guso) for re-sale purposes. She has been engaged in this line of business for five years, and she typically earns an average of no less than 5,000 PHP per month from these activities.

In 2011, Rosalie joined PMPC to gain access to financial services. By doing so, she hopes to be better able to engage in business activities and to thereby improve her family's standard of living. Rosalie is an active member of PMPC under the PDP-LP, a microfinance program that reaches out to rural communities. She is now requesting her first loan through PMP, in the amount of 5,000 PHP ($125), which would be used to finance production of her guso. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business as a result of the loan to improve her family's living conditions. For instance, she would like to use the additional revenue to meet their family's basic needs, save for the future, repay the loan, and expand her business.
