A loan helped to buy more cooking oil, hens, and Irish potatoes to fry for sale.

Lillian's story

Lillian is 29 years old and lives in the town of Mityana in the Mityana region of Uganda. She is married and has 2 children, 1 of whom is currently in school. For the past 2 years, Lilian has been working hard to manage her catering business, which sells fried chips and chickens. To help expand her business, Lillian has requested a loan of 800,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more cooking oil, hens, and Irish potatoes to fry for sale, and will help Lillian to generate greater profits and manage to provide enough food for her family. Lillian hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her business into a big restaurant. She is a member of BRAC's Microfinance Program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members, like Lillian, who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
