A loan helped to purchase clothes for resale.

Irene's story

Irene is 35 years old and lives in the town of Mityana in the Mityana region of Uganda. She is married and has three children who are all currently in school. For the past 10 years, Irene has been working hard to manage her boutique, which sells all kinds of adult clothes like shirts and dresses.

To help expand her business, Irene has requested a loan of 800,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase clothes for resale and will help Irene to generate greater profits and manage to buy basic needs for her family.

Irene hopes that in the future she will be able to build rentals for business. She is a member of BRAC's Microfinance Program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members, like Irene, who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
