A loan helped develop and launch a small custom woodworking business in an underserved rural community.

Corey And Gina's story

Our story: planting the seed for Corey's Custom Woodworking. Welcome to beautiful, scenic upper Perry. We are a community of nine households located roughly five miles west of La Grande, Oregon. The Wallowa-Whitman National Forest is mere minutes away, which is where my appreciation of trees as fuel wood turned into my fascination with trees as beautiful works of art.

I dabbled in wood working when I was a general contractor, supervising crews from Portland to Astoria. Building structures was my vocation, but doing custom cabinetry was much more rewarding for me. Together, we moved to our current home where I am most comfortable, nestled by Red Fir, Ponderosa Pine, and Tamarac, and where I can pursue my passion of woodworking.

Our one acre is the perfect location to store lumber without damaging any native plant species. There just happened to be a shop on the property. It is the perfect place to launch Corey's Custom Woodworking. Not only is it a passion, but there is also an unmet need in La Grande and surrounding areas. Won't you help us on this journey?
