A loan helped to buy dry food to sell.

Akur's story

Meet Akur, a refugee mother to 3 children, all of whom are attending school and staying with her in Moyo, which is in the West Nile sub-region of Uganda.

Life can be so difficult, but guess what? This mother of 3 never gave up but instead worked hard for them not to starve. She is a farmer who grows maize and cassava.

The food is mainly for home consumption and a little for selling just to make sure that she does not starve. The stock is really very limited, so she is not able to sell as much as she would wish.

She would like to buy dry food to sell so that she can boost her sales and offer her family a better life, and her dream is to expand her business so that one day she can build a permanent house.

She is very glad for all the support that VisionFund and Kiva have given her.

This loan is special because:

It helps refugees in Uganda rebuild and sustain their livelihoods.
