Entrepreneurship allows women to make a difference and generate positive impacts in their communities. This is true for María (age 51), who is married to a construction worker and the mother of four children older than 17 years. She is caring for two of the children; the other two are married, and she is the grandmother of four children. Joining forces with her husband, they provided a ninth grade education to their four children. María has only three years of formal education.
Thirteen years ago, she began to sell clothing for babies, gifts for all occasions, and pots. She sells from her home.
María requests a Kiva loan to buy more baby clothing and cooking utensils, that are in high demand currently. Her goal is to continue increasing her business and adding personal use products.
The “Puente al Éxito” [Bridge to Success] program of Puente de Amistad [Friendship Bridge] offers many benefits to women like María. The goal of the program is to empower motivated women to develop businesses that have solid foundations upon which they can build. They receive instruction in goal setting, planning, and budgeting, and know the importance of being responsible and providing good customer service. This leads them to have greater success and growth in their endeavors.
Thank you, Kiva lenders, for helping María to reach her goals successfully. She appreciates your generosity.
