A loan helped to invest in supplies for her hammock weaving business.

Naraket's story

Naraket lives in a mountain village in Northern Thailand, where job opportunities are limited and educational access is challenging. Despite marrying at 16, she managed to complete a 9th grade education. Naraket and her husband work as farmers, while their four children attend school about an hour away from their village.

Transitioning to artisan hammock weaving significantly improved Naraket’s quality of life and household income. Despite weaving for just one year, she has quickly mastered the skill and aims to produce up to ten hammocks monthly if there's sufficient demand. The profits from her hammock business will cover household expenses like electricity and food, providing much-needed stability.

With the support of a Kiva loan, Naraket plans to bolster her hammock weaving business. This loan will ensure a steady supply of materials, sustaining her weaving activities year-round and fostering further economic growth. She's hopeful that this loan will kickstart her journey towards stable employment.

This loan is special because:

It creates employment opportunities for vulnerable populations living in remote rural areas.
