A loan helped to buy chicks to raise broiler chickens to resell in the community.

Essinate Feniasse's story

Essinate is 40 years old. She lives in Nampula province, Mozambique.

Essinate is a hardworking and visionary woman who determinedly invested in the broiler chicken farming business. She does this business in her own house. This allows her to monitor her own business, mainly because it involves raising poultry, which is vulnerable to disease outbreaks.

With determination, she bravely ventured into this emerging market, despite several challenges such as not having a suitable poultry house.

Recently, Essinate had the opportunity to participate in business and financial literacy training offered by IDE, where she learned about a variety of topics, including agriculture as a family business, budgeting, and other essential skills. Thanks to this training, Essinate was able to improve and change the way she runs her business.

In recent times, Assinate's business has seen significant growth, accompanied by an increase in demand for broiler chickens in her community. Her good reputation as a supplier of good-weight broiler chickens has contributed significantly to the increase in the number of customers. In order to respond to the growing demand, she is asking for her first Kiva loan. She will raise more broiler chickens to sell and improve people's diets in her community, and make the business grow.

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers and the agricultural ecosystem in Mozambique.
