A loan helped to buy enough charcoal for resale.

Prossy's story

Prossy is 38 years old and lives in the town of Kalerwe in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has two children who are both currently in school.

For the past three years, Prossy has been working hard to manage her retail store, which sells charcoal. To help expand her business, Prossy has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy enough charcoal for resale and will help Prossy to generate greater profits. Her production will increase and attract more revenue. She will manage to buy food for her family. Prossy hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her charcoal store.

Prossy is a member of BRAC's Microfinance Program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Prossy who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
