A loan helped to buy enough charcoal for resale.

Amina's story

Amina is 36 years old and lives in the town of Makindye in the Kabuusu region of Uganda. She is married and has three children who are all currently in school. For the past six years, Amina has been working hard to manage her retail store, which sells charcoal.

To help expand her business, Amina has requested a loan of 2,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy enough charcoal for resale, and will help Amina generate greater profits so her production will increase and attract more revenue. She will be able to buy food for her family.

Amina hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her charcoal store. She is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Amina who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
