A loan helped to buy more herbal medicines for resale.

Joyce's story

Joyce is 65 years old and lives in the town of Makindye in the Kabuusu region of Uganda. She is married and has 4 children.

For the past 15 years, Joyce has been working hard to manage her herbal products business, in which sells herbal medicines.

To help her to expand her business, Joyce has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more herbal medicines for resale. It will help Joyce to generate greater profits to manage to repay the loan and to buy food for the family.

Joyce hopes that, in the future, she will be able to build a house of her own. Joyce is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Joyce who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
