A loan helped sells roasted cassava and cooked cassava.

Madaye's story

Madaye is 44 years old and lives in the town of Makindye in the Kabuusu region of Uganda. She is married and has four children with two of them currently in school. For the past 15 years, Madaye has been working hard to manage her snack business, which sells roasted cassava and cooked cassava.

To help expand her business, Madaye has requested a loan of 2,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more cassava to cook for sale, and will help Madaye to generate greater profits and improve on her family's standards of living by providing them food. Madaye hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a piece pf land and build a house of her own.

Madaye is a member of BRAC's microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Madaye who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
