A loan helped to buy more shoes to sell.

Sumayiya's story

Sumayiya is 34 years old and lives in the town of Makindye in the Kabuusu region of Uganda. She is married and has 3 children, 2 of whom are currently in school. For the past 6 years, Sumayiya has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells secondhand shoes.

To help expand her business, Sumayiya has requested a loan of 1,000,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more shoes for resale, and will help Sumayiya to generate greater profits so her production will increase and attract more revenue. She will manage to buy food for her family. Sumayiya hopes that in the future she will be able to buy land and build a house of her own.

Sumayiya is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Sumayiya who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and that qualify for microloans.
