A loan helped to purchase more fashionable clothes for resale.

Mary's story

Mary is 41 years old and lives in the town of Kayunga in the Mukono region of Uganda. She is married and has four children, with three of them currently in school. For the past seven years, she has been working hard to manage her boutique, which sells all kinds of adult clothes, like shirts and dresses.

To help expand her business, she has requested a loan of 1,500,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more fashionable clothes for resale, and will help Mary to generate greater profits and manage to buy basic needs for her family. She hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her business into a bigger shop and build a house.

Mary is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small Group members like Mary who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
