My passion for the beauty industry started on my 13th birthday, when I had a Mary Kay make-up party. My mom started selling Mary Kay that day, which opened the door to learning all about cosmetics, skin care, and beauty transformations. When I was in high school I decided I wanted to pursue my dream of becoming a cosmetologist by enrolling in the cosmetology program at the Center of Technology, Essex. By the time I graduated high school I had completed all 1500 hours to then move forward in taking my state board exam to become licensed.
I have always had a passion to become a salon owner, and create a business model that had a unique experience for not only the guests but for the employees as well. When I became a salon owner in 2013, I read a quote that became the core of my purpose- “I aspire to inspire before I expire.“ (Entrepreneur and author Eugene Bell Jr).
What motivates me and my passion for my business is knowing that I have the ability to uplift people on a daily basis. Every appointment behind the chair I can make people feel important. Any stylist or salon I work with, I can use the tools and resources I have to help elevate more professionals in this industry.

Business Description
My business is Jubilance Salon, a hair salon in downtown Burlington located on Bank Street. We offer hair services, reiki sessions, sunless spray tanning, and infrared sauna blanket sessions. I started this business as a single mother wanting to have the flexibility to create the hours I needed for my family, and to give a work environment for other professionals who wanted a similar salon culture.
I believe education is one of the biggest keys to success in our industry. Trends are always changing, and it’s important to continue growing as a professional, and as well as personally when it comes to being a hairstylist. A lot of times, guests put all their trust in their stylists, over anyone else in their lives and we as professionals should be up to date on styles, and know how to connect with all people. One of Jubilance Salon’s core values is being “committed to team support and client relations.”
We value spreading kindness, and understanding what self-care really means. The name itself, Jubilance means- a feeling or expression of great joy and satisfaction. Jubilance Salon focuses on creating an authentic atmosphere for professionals and guests with our endless opportunities for self-growth, and uplifting experiences so that each individual leaves the salon feeling valuable, jubilant, and inspired. What is the purpose of this loan?
I will use this loan to add and update some equipment in the salon that will allow other professionals in our industry to join us, and add value to our service menu. Some of the equipment would consist of a massage table, hot towel warmer, facial steamer, chairs, and more storage and shelving furniture. Some of the services would include, lash extensions, massage and skin care. I am apprenticing someone who is excited to become a licensed professional through the salon. With this success, I would like to add an apprenticeship program to continue on in offering this to others in the future who may want to take a different route rather than going to the Aveda Institute.
This requires tools and materials to teach such as, the salon professional textbook and study guide, mannequins (head and hands), nail kit (manicure and acrylic set), and facial portion. Once this apprentice is done with their required hours (1500) and board exam, they will have an immediate full-time job at Jubilance Salon. Being an apprenticeship leader is a great investment because once they are done there will be a new professional as a part of our team, however it does take away time for me to work behind the chair and bring in money for the business.
Right now, there is one other professional working at the salon. This loan would also help “cushion” for any payroll expenses during slower times, or other salon expenses when I am focused on the apprenticeship program.

Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
"N/A" means the Lending Partner disburses loans to borrowers in USD so their loans are not subject to any currency fluctuation.
Do Kiva borrowers pay any interest on their loans?
Our partners collect interest from borrowers because there are many operational expenses associated with microfinance in developing markets, especially in rural areas. Many of Kiva's Lending Partners also provide additional services alongside their loan products such as business training, financial literacy lessons, or health services.
Kiva will not partner with an organization that charges unreasonable interest rates, and we require Lending Partners to fully disclose their rates. In addition, we only partner with microfinance institutions and organizations that have a social mission to serve the poor, unbanked, and underserved.
