A loan helped bring delicious Peruvian snacks and amazing crafts to our community and helps us create jobs!

Erica's story

My story begins in Los Andes, the ancient mountains of Peru that have housed generations of indigenous communities, all of which have century-old crafting traditions that my grandparents passed down to me. I lived with my grandparents until the 90s when our village underwent a series of violent attacks and forced us to move from our beloved mountains to the coast of Lima. I forgot about crafting and became a veterinarian.

Years later, in the beginning of covid, all of the beloved crafting stores went out of business and friends were asking me for loans to support them until tourists returned. It was in this moment that I was reminded of my grandparents, the loss of our village and a fear set in that, without the support of these small crafters, our heritage would be as lost as our village. I decided to buy crafts from all over Peru and bring them to the United States where I started Happy Llamas LLC. I carry my pueblo with me, the love and hospitality from my country and want to educate and bring joy to Wisconsin, doing my part to carry on our wonderful, ancient traditions.

This loan is special because:

It supports a small business owner with 0%-interest, zero-fee capital.
