A loan helped to purchase feed for her poultry to improve on egg production.

Claire's story

Claire is 58 years old and lives in the town of Ggaba in the Makindye region of Uganda. She is married and has 2 children, with 1 of them currently in school. For the past 10 years, Claire has been working hard to manage her poultry farming.

To help expand her business, Claire has requested a loan of 2,700,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase feed for the poultry to improve on egg production and meat to sell. This will help Claire to generate greater profits, and she will manage to buy food for her family and take care of herself. Claire hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a plot of land and build a bigger house for her family, and also expand her poultry farm.

Claire is a member of BRAC's Microfinance Program (MF). The program primarily serves members of small groups like Claire who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
