A loan helped a family winery acquire equipment for expanding into the sparkling wine and cider market.

Bob's story

Averill House Vineyard symbolizes the culmination of my lifelong entrepreneurial journey and my passion for crafting exceptional experiences with family and friends. Growing up in a family of entrepreneurs, I explored various ventures, from organizing yard carnivals with my uncles to delving into sports marketing, even sponsoring Raul Boesel in the prestigious Indianapolis 500. My automotive career served as a platform for my children to immerse themselves in the world of hospitality, participating in diverse shows and events.

In the early 2000s, my children pursued their own paths. Stephanie, a Navy Seabee, excelled in logistics and customer service; Beth earned a Cordon Bleu Food Science degree, while Jake honed his skills in cooking and inventory management. In 2012, Stephanie gifted me six grape vines, which surprisingly thrived. We made a drinkable wine that winter, late nights, books, and the internet propelled us to improve, resulting in a significantly better harvest the following year.

Fueled by our shared enthusiasm, my adult children expressed their desire to create a business together—a profound and proud moment in my life. We embarked on a journey exploring concepts both nationally and internationally. Culminating in Spain during research on Tapas Bars and Breweries. There, we encountered donkeys transporting wine casks to a rustic winery beneath ancient oak trees. Enchanted, we envisioned our vineyard. After auditing 30 wineries, Averill House emerged—a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation. Our focal point, a restored 1830s barn surrounded by vineyards, showcased our love for agrotourism and wine.

Our vision extends to incorporating local fruit into our cider and sparkling wine line—a reflection of our entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to community enhancement. As we grow Beth has Become General Manager, Stephanie Account Manager and Jake Winemaker. I look forward to every day!
