Zabayo Group's story

Kiroha S. is an entrepreneur and the leader of the group named Zabayo. She is 47 years old and she is the mother of 9 children. Her partner is a teacher. She has a small business selling drinks (Primus and local drinks) from her home. She is also an agriculturist. She started out her business with her own money, given to her by her husband. She received a loan from IMF Hekima (Kiva Field Partner) in the amount of $50 in early 2010. This new loan will help her buy more products (5 boxes of Primus, 6 tubs of a local drink called mandrakwa) and to buy 2 hectares of land to cultivate. Additionally, she hopes to comfortably build a house in the popular quarter of Majengo. Kiroha S. is grateful to Hekima for their actions towards the poor who are excluded from traditional banks. The Zabayo group is made up of 31 members.
