A loan helped to purchase for more sugar, salt, soft drinks, maize flour and fresh milk to sell.

Syrivia's story

Syrivia is 38 years old and lives in the town of Matugga in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has 6 children with 5 of them currently in school. For the past 5 years Syrivia has been working hard to manage her retail shop which sells general merchandise items like sugar, salt, cooking oil and fresh milk.

To help expand her business, Syrivia has requested a loan of 4,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more sugar, salt, soft drinks, maize flour and fresh milk to sell at her convenience store, and will help Syrivia to generate greater profits and help her husband to pay school fees for her children and buy food for her family.

Syrivia hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her business to a bigger wholesale shop.

Syrivia is a member of BRAC's microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Syrivia who do not have collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
