Mekelani is a 60-year-old man, married with 5 children, 2 of them are in school and aged 22 and 21 years old.
Mekelani is very active even though he is sixty years old and he was chosen to be a group leader in his group. In the picture, he is wearing a jacket with a hand raised up.
Mekelani is a maize farmer and he has been in this business for 20 years. The new loan from FIFAD will help him to buy a solar powered surface irrigation pump which will help him to practice irrigation throughout the year without having the pressure of where to source money for fuel pumps and fuel.
Nowadays, in Malawi, fuel is a scarce resource. He intends to have a good home, in the future, and to buy a motor bike with the profits made from farming.
He believes that having the solar surface pump will help him to cultivate on a larger area of land, which will help him to have more yields from the field. He is hoping again that prices on the market will be good as well.
