A loan helped a woman/mother owned kombucha brewery secure a space to ramp up production and open a tasting room.

Katie's story

I was born and raised in Boise, leaving for college and returning with a chemistry degree and a new appreciation for the incredible city I get to call home. I fell in love with the science and art of fermentation after working in winemaking for over six years. I began experimenting with delicious and nutritious kombucha about ten years ago. I always had the idea in the back of my head that I could turn my hobby into a business, but because of being so risk-averse and lacking confidence, my daydream never became more than that.

I bounced around to find a career that lit me up in my 20s. I didn't then, but I received my MBA in 2016, which started my wheels spinning and gave me the confidence to work for myself. Later that year, I had my first child and found my passion for supporting women through the motherhood transition. I found fulfillment in helping women through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum in the miraculous and demanding birth work. Thanks to Covid, a little burnout, and the birth of my second child, I decided to step back from birth work and raise my boys full time (while still brewing and experimenting with kombucha, of course).

Three years later, I can look back at all the question marks in my life and connect the dots. I know that everything I have gone through in my life has given me the necessary tools - education, experience, passion, and confidence(!) to pursue my dream that has been dormant for over a decade. I will open a kombucha brewery and taproom where I am so grateful to call home, Boise, Idaho!
