A loan helped a black, LGBTQ+ entrepreneur grow his artisanal, small-batch cocktail business.

Greg's story

Growing up in Boston, MA from Haitian immigrant parents, it was important for me to build on my academic achievements, which I pursued aggressively. However, at the start of the pandemic, I began to grow my entrepreneurial spirit and tap into a hobby that I have longed been interested in, curating cocktails.

I have always been an avid patron of local bars that serve unique craft cocktails. Additionally, visiting speakeasies is a favorite pastime, especially when traveling internationally.

During the height of the pandemic, I joined my very first virtual happy hour that required the purchase of specific ingredients.

I began to experiment with cocktails at home and eventually my batched craft cocktails became a big hit when I shared with friends during our picnics in the park that allowed us to fellowship during the lock down.

As my home bar and experimenting with different cocktails grew, I began to think, “there must be a way to monetize on this newfound artistic ability,” which is how BOTL’D began!

In June 2022, my employer at the time decided to eliminate my position without notice. I have been working full-time on growing BOTL’D ever since.
