A loan helped a community and family focused income based law firm open a Family Center on Chicago's south side.

Chlece's story

I am the Executive Director of a not for profit law firm. I always wanted to create and organization that values individuals, families and communities. I have always wanted to be a community lawyer. One challenge to this mission was having an office down town. As an organization we always struggled with having easy access to the court house verses having an office in a community that has less access to legal resources. In 2020 when Covid-19 hit, it changed how we practice law. And like so many my life changed as well, when I moved to South Chicago. After seven years of the law firm moving from one office to the next, and my self from one apartment to the next it is time for Chicago Advocate Legal, to have a home. To belong to the people we serve and to continue to be shaped by the people we serve. The Family Center is an opportunity to bring legal services to South Chicago, as well as a community space that focuses on strengthening individual, families and the community by maximizing our collective and individual strengths and finding solutions together.

This loan is special because:

It supports a small business owner with 0%-interest, zero-fee capital.
