A loan helped to purchase more sacks of sugar, salt and maize flour.

Bushirah's story

Bushirah is 25 years old and lives in the town of Ggaba in the Makindye region of Uganda. She has one child who is currently in school.

For the past two years, Bushirah has been working hard to manage her retail shop, where she sells general merchandise items like sugar, salt, cooking oil, and water.

To help expand her business, Bushirah has requested a loan of 1,000,000 Ugandan shillings [UGX] from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more sacks of sugar, salt, and maize flour for sale. This will help Bushirah to generate greater profits and manage to take good care of her child by providing enough food.

Bushirah hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her business into a wholesale shop.

Bushirah is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Bushirah who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
