The place known as Los Arenales can be found in the Crucita parish in the Portoviejo province. That is where the members of the “Nueva Generación” (New Generation) Communal Bank meet every two weeks. This place is known for its beautiful beaches, its cuisine, and the warmth of its people.
This is where we find Alexi, age 40. She is married and has three children; ages 23, 22, and 20. Two of the children live with her. Her husband is a driver. She has been a member of the communal bank for two years, and she oversees the regulations for the bank.
She has a grocery store in her house. She sells things like rice, sugar, meat, fish, shrimp, cheese, and certain remedies. She also sells bazaar items like clothes, shoes, and costume jewelry. She works every day from 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Her husband helps her work. She buys the merchandise in the city of Portoviejo, and some other products are delivered to her place.
This loan is to stock her store. She will buy rice, sugar, tuna, detergent, and bazaar items. It is close to Christmas, and lots of clothes and shoes are sold during this season. Her dreams are to have a bigger house, which is built better, and to have a larger business.
