A loan helped to empower her business of weaving by buying pandanus.

Mele's story

She may be old, but she still manages to run her weaving business well without failing. Her name is Mele and she is a separated mother of seven. For more than thirty years, she has made a living from weaving mats and ta'ovala and sells out. She also has another business making tapas, but she lets her daughter manage her tapa making. Mele weaves on her own, and also receives help from one of her daughters. Some of her children reside overseas and it is where she sells her ta'ovala and mats at. With this loan, she will manage to empower her business by buying pandanus for her weaving.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
