A loan helped a minority woman-owned logistics company provide second chances and empower women in the trucking industry.

Amanda's story

I'm a dedicated self-starter who wants to see my business succeed. This provides an opportunity for me to create generational wealth as well as create employment opportunities for others in justice-impacted communities or in the re-entry population. I live in a community where crime and poverty have plagued our neighborhoods. Growing up in a Tier 1 community with violence, poverty, and crime was not easy. I witnessed too many friends and family members fall victim to the harsh realities of our neighborhood, which motivated me to want to be a second chance employer to help people find new career paths and provide ways to make a positive impact and difference in my community.

I knew I had to create a better life for myself and my future family, so I worked hard at every job I got, pushing myself to do better, but becoming a business owner was not easy. I decided to get into trucking because I knew a few people in the industry who seemed to be doing very well, so I took everything in my savings and 401k and purchased my first truck. There was so much to learn about the trucking industry that it forced me to have to leave my job and give it my full attention, which took away my mainstream of income and made it hard to fund the business. It was so hard to transition from working for someone and becoming a business owner. There were so many obstacles to overcome that I wasn't prepared for, from funding to local regulations. Today, my business continues to grow, and I am proud of the impact it has made. As the trucking industry continues to grow, I hope to give drivers the opportunity with my company to invest in opportunities in trucking & logistics.
