A loan helped provide 500+ Zambian farmers with crop inputs, financing and climate-smart technical training.

Tivwane Money Solutions's story

In Zambia, 30-40% of local food supply is provided by small-scale farmers, yet very few commercial banks are working in rural areas where limited access to capital dramatically impacts farmers' access to irrigation equipment and agriculture inputs. Without financing, inputs, or irrigation, farmers depend primarily on rainfall, making them vulnerable to climate change.

Tivwane Money Solutions is a social enterprise agriculture lender with a mission to enable farming families to break the hunger and poverty cycle and build lasting pathways to prosperity. The company invests in agribusiness financing to support the development of improved crop varieties and livestock breeds more resilient to climate shocks and the projected increase in global temperatures. Tivwane provides financial literacy training and technical support on climate-smart agriculture practices.

To date, Tivwane has supported more than 1,500 farming and entrepreneur households, impacting close to 11,000 Zambians.

Kiva’s loan will enable Tivwane to reach more than 500 additional farmers with its services and eliminate the processing fee they otherwise would need to charge. This is Tivwane’s first loan through the Kiva Social Enterprise program

This loan is special because:

It enables 500 Zambian farmers to obtain affordable financing to purchase farming inputs and improve incomes.
