A loan helped to buy high-quality traditional textiles to resell.

Juana's story

Juana, a 31-year-old married mother of 3 children (13-15), is raising her children alone because her husband left to work in the United States 7 years ago.

Income from the hard work of the couple supports the continuing education of the children, who are in the 7th and 8th grades.

Juana only attended school for 6 years because she fell in love and married when she was 14 years old.

For 20 years, Juana has worked in her mother’s prepared food business. She earned income from this work, but then 4 years ago, she decided to strike out on her own and started a traditional textile business embroidering colorful blouses/”huipiles” and skirts/”cortes”.

Her mother taught her how to embroider. Then she expanded her business and began selling complete traditional outfits.

Her mother loaned her a space for the business. Juana’s daughter helps her with both businesses. They are hard workers and can finish 2 complete traditional outfits every 15 days.

Juana is requesting her 1st loan to buy high-quality traditional textiles, especially important at this time of the year!

Her goals are to sell her current inventory and then buy the latest designs and colors of the textiles. She also wants to begin to sell high-quality thread.

She shares, “I would like to see each of my children graduate and successfully work.”

Due to the type of business and volume of inventory, Juana is eligible to be part of the new program called Puente al Éxito. This offers individual loans and business advice.

This loan is special because:

It empowers women to build successful businesses and become leaders in their community.
