A loan helped to buy a biodigester to transform her farm into a sustainable business.

Banice's story

Banice has five children and lives in the rural region of Nakuru. Her dream is to create a cost-effective, sustainable dairy farm to pass on to her children and even her future grandchildren.

Banice is currently spending too much money on the propane required to heat the milk produced by her cows in order to pasteurize it. With the Sistema Biobolsa biodigester, Banice will reduce her reliance on expensive and non-renewable LP gas and agrochemical fertilizers by processing the manure from her cows to produce biogas and biofertilizer, helping both her wallet and the environment. This loan will help Banice to install a 16-cubic-meter biodigester that will pay for itself after an average of two years.

The resulting reduction in operating costs will allow her to better deal with fluctuating and unpredictable milk prices and make it easier for Banice and her kids to continue the generations-old tradition of dairy farming in Nakuru.

This loan represents 100% of the price of the biodigester.

This loan is special because:

It saves farmers money by transforming waste into biogas and organic fertilizer.
