A loan helped an immigrant refugee woman from Belarus open a coffee shop in Tacoma, Washington!

Valentina's story

I was born and raised in a small country in Europe called Belarus. My parents took a big leap of faith by moving out to Washington State when I was just six years old. We came to the states as immigrants and refugees seeking religious freedom in America. My parent's bold and brave move for the sake of our family is fueling my decision to open up my coffee shop in Tacoma, Washington. I learned from an early age that great risks are worth taking when they are taken for love's sake - and Common Ground Coffee is my labor of love. I am absolutely passionate about people making connections with other people - especially over cups of coffee. Community is irreplaceable and my goal is to create a space where people can gather and connect with each other and enjoy delicious beverages that warm their soul. My very big dream is to one day expand Common Ground Coffee to include counseling offices as a part of the space. I want to be a part of helping break mental stigma and help encourage others to get help with no shame. To have a space where people can hang out and mingle and then also be able to go to their counseling appointment in a private, safe office that is located on site of their favorite coffee shop.
