Shaluwah's story

Shaluwa is 29 years old and lives in the town of Kabuusu in the Makindye region of Uganda. For the past 3 years, Shaluwa has been working hard to manage her book shop, which owns a licensed music library.

To help expand her business, Shaluwa has requested a loan of 1,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to add more items like CDs to to sustain her business, and will help Shaluwa to generate greater profits and manage to pay some of her household bills and for food and the basic needs of her family. Shaluwa hopes that in the future, she will be able to own a commercial property.

Shaluwa is a member of BRAC's Microfinance Program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Shaluwa who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
