A loan helped to acquire inventory and equipment to launch my new textile business.

Ingrid's story

I grew up in Puerto Rico, a tropical Island where we have summer all year long. My passion for sewing started when I was 14 years old, looking at my grandma sewing, I learned my first stitches and broke many needles! Since then, I’ve been sewing and my enthusiasm for textiles and sewing grew, so I decided to educate myself in that area, earning certifications at local fashion schools. From basic garments to pattern making, I’ve been exploring new areas over time and creating more complex pieces. The most recent area that I’ve been exploring is Swimwear and spandex garments.

During the pandemic and with much time to dedicate to sewing, I’ve become more experienced in managing spandex fabrics, so I started a swimwear line. There’s where I noticed that the local supply of this type of fabric and related materials is very limited. I wasn’t the only one going through this, as many other entrepreneurs were creating their handmade swimsuit business too, but were not finding much local supply. I felt the need to create a business that could supply those essential materials in an accessible way, having a one-stop shop where they can get high-quality spandex fabric and the related materials needed to create the garments at a reasonable cost. In addition to that, I want to help younger generations to learn this beautiful profession, so I’ve dedicated time to teach them basic sewing and to become better; I desire to continue with sewing education through my business. I want to see my local community grow into the sewing, textile, and handmade garments business, I’m grateful that I will be working hard to achieve more accessibility to materials and education in the sewing business.
