A loan helped to buy enough crates of soda and sugar for passion juice.

Winnie's story

Winnie is 36 years old and lives in the town of Kalerwe in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has two children who are both currently in school. For the past three years, Winnie has been working hard to manage her beverages business, which sells soft drinks like passion juice, water, and sodas.

To help expand her business, Winnie has requested a loan of 1,100,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy enough crates of soda and sugar for passion juice, energy drinks, and drinking water. This will help Winnie to generate greater profits and to increase her production to attract more revenue. She will manage to buy food for her family and also to support her children. Winnie hopes that in the future she will be able to own a depot of soda.

Winnie is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Winnie who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
