A loan helped to purchase more braids to plait and cosmetics for sale.

Lydia's story

Lydia is 36 years old and lives in the town of Njeru in the Mukono region of Uganda. She is married and has 3 children, all of whom are currently in school. For the past 10 years, Lydia has been working hard to manage her beauty salon, which plaits hair.

To help expand her business, Lydia has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more braids to plait, and will help Lydia to generate greater profits and improve her standards of living by providing enough food for her family. Lydia hopes that in the future she will be able to buy land and build a house of her own.

Lydia is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Lydia who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
