A loan helped a woman veteran entrepreneur with upgrades to her food truck serving family recipes.

Dannette's story

Hello, I am Dannette, owner of Mrs. Mildred’s Kitchen food truck in Fayetteville, Arkansas. I grew up in San Antonio, TX, surrounded by the love of food. I remember sitting in my grandmother’s yard as a kid, shucking corn and standing on chairs to wash ingredients at her sink. Our family always gathered together over food, and I have always used those historic recipes adding a little twist to them as I grew older but keeping those old-school flavors. After high school, I joined the U. S. Army but always kept cooking when I went home to visit, especially my famous family barbeque. I learned to grill from my father and mom’s signature mac and cheese. After getting married, I started cooking more for my family, remembering all the flavors I grew up using. When I prepare meals, I prepare them from my heart and love to look at the facial expressions when someone tries my food for the first time.

After years of preparing these meals for my family, we joined together in July of 2021. We opened Mrs. Mildred’s Kitchen food truck in Fayetteville, honoring my father's love for my mother’s food, a name we came up with after he passed away from ALS. He would always post pictures of meals my mom prepared on Facebook and say this came from Mrs. Mildreds Kitchen, so I have those beautiful records to reference still today for our dishes and to share our history with our customers!
