A loan helped us hire an administrative assistant to keep up with the rapid growth of the lactation support center.

Elizabeth's story

I opened the doors of Milk Street at the beginning of the summer of 2022. This was quite a big step as a 58-year-old single woman, but I had faith that the need for this service was excellent. I have always envisioned a store-front space that brings the care and support of moms and babies out of a medical office building and into the heart of the community.

My most recent job was at a breastfeeding medicine office in Connecticut. I worked at this practice for five years. The doctor who ran the course was retiring, and I saw this as an opportunity to fulfill my dream of being a business owner.

Before that position, I oversaw the lactation department at a large multispecialty pediatric office. Before that, I spent 17 years at Norwalk Hospital as a Labor and delivery nurse, lactation consultant, and hospital-based educator.

I have two grown children in their mid-twenties, and the idea of setting the example that anything is possible is being set by my actions and not words. This has been fulfilling in ways I could not imagine.

This loan is special because:
