A loan helped a member to purchase more beverages.

De Puente Roto Group's story

Guatemala is a country known for its varied climate since it goes from cold in the west to warm on the southern coast. Elisa, 22 years old, lives in this place. She is a woman in a relationship and the mother of a 4-year-old child. She graduated from secondary school as a teacher, but unfortunately she has not been able to get a job.

Elisa's partner is a day laborer and does not earn enough to support the family. For this reason, she decided to start her own business three years ago. She has a stand at the side of a soccer field in her community where she sells beverages and different types of snacks.

During the end-of-the-year holidays, a number of sport events are organized, attracting many spectators. To increase the business's inventory, Elisa asks for her first Kiva loan to purchase more beverages. She will designate a part of the income to offering her child a complete education in the future.

The warm department/state of Suchitepéquez is the home of 7 women who form the De Puente Roto communal bank. The Microcrédito Plus program, which combines credit support, educational training, and access to health services is fundamental for these women's success. There are four important areas for their development: health, family, women, and business, topics about avoiding over-indebtedness, working together, and responsibility. They help these women to manage their businesses of stores for daily consumption and selling tortillas, firewood, and chicken by the pound.

Thank you!
