A loan helped to buy quality farm inputs, such as high-quality seeds and fertilizers, to help a forward-looking mom improve productivity on her farm.

Sharon's story

Sharon does mixed farming (dairy and crop) for home food and commercial purposes. She enjoys farming. It is her means of securing the basic necessities of life.

Access to modern-quality farm inputs (fertilizers and high-quality seeds) is the pillar of the agricultural revolution. However, in Kenya, a developing country, fertilizer and seed allocation by the government are way below the needs of farmers.

Since Juhudi Kilimo, which is in partnership with Kiva, ventured into the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement in input availability than previously.

Sharon has requested a loan, which she will use to buy farm inputs such as fertilizers and high-quality seeds. The loan for quality farm inputs will enable her to improve her production. This intervention will help her fill the increasing demand for food in the market and, in the process, generate more income to repay the loan debt and elevate her children's quality of life.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
