A loan helped a latina women-owned photo lab & editorial expand business and get a new scan & printing machine.

Estefania's story

I founded a photo lab called Boca de Lobo with my partner two years ago. We are both Latina women photographers from Puerto Rico. I grew up in San Juan, from Venezuelan and Cuban parents. I come from a big and artistic family who inspired me to pursue a photography career since college. I studied film and photography and fell in love with it since then.

After several years of living in Los Angeles and working in my craft, I came back to Puerto Rico and began an independent photo lab with my partner in 2020 during the pandemic. We started from scratch with no equipment. We’ve grown our business by working and saving and re-investing our earnings, creating and implementing new opportunities and ideas into our community area.

I am very proud to have a photo lab that is growing and making a difference, to have a store and a lab that has created employment for new aspiring photographers. More recently we founded an editorial where more artists will be able to showcase their artwork. I want to keep offering a space for our community to learn and grow and access better opportunities.
