Minerva's story

My name is Minerva. I am originally from Oaxaca, Mexico born in the small pueblo of San Andres Sabinillo. Though my parents raised me in Mexico City where I’ve lived throughout most of my teenage years and early adulthood. By the age of 21, I made the decision to cross the border and seek a better life in the states. An opportunity that will change my daughter's future and thrive for something more. As a single mother running and moving to a new land and seeking better opportunities to provide a better lifestyle for my daughter, I face a lot of obstacles at first.

I started working at a cleaning company working over twelve hours sometimes to earn enough for the basic expenses to survive but I realized I was not spending quality time with my daughter and missing all the once-in-a-lifetime memories that a mother can build with a child. I decided to look for a different job ending in the carpenter industry but because of the language, I had not many possibilities to scale. Then I started going to adult school to learn the language to reach better job opportunities.

But my daughter became a teenager with different needs and realized that if I wanted her to vision higher education I needed to get more involved in her education, so after twelve years of being part of the carpenter union I decided to go start my own business in the cleaning industry.
