We were born and raised in Venezuela by a Czech father and a Panamanian mother. We grew up immersed in a multicultural environment and witnessed how good education and solid emotional maturity help people throughout their lives. As teenagers and later in college, we both used to work with kids, Marta in summer camps and as a substitute teacher for preschoolers, and Anna as a babysitter.
Years later, with our own families, we migrated from Venezuela. Marta moved to the USA, where she started working in a preschool and later got her certification as Director and worked as such for many years. Anna moved to Malta, where she used to work with preschoolers and children with special needs. During that time living apart, we talked daily about our daily experiences with kids and slowly started dreaming about working together in our own preschool. From dreaming, we passed to planning a preschool with all the elements necessary to support and stimulate children's development.
About a year ago, Anna and her family moved to Colorado to materialize that dream with Marta.

We invested a lot of time looking for the place where preschool services were needed and searching for all the information and rules necessary to obtain the license. We found an extraordinary place to rent in Boulder County, CO, where our preschool will deliver care and education for young minds.
We designed Golden Aspen Bilingual Early Learning Center as a non-sectarian preschool. We included the elements and philosophy to help the children grow in a safe, stimulating and loving environment that allows them to develop their full potential.
We want to provide a quality setting that is both enriching and enjoyable, to support each child’s development. Our preschool is committed to promoting and supporting all aspects of a child's growth in an atmosphere of multiculturalism, respect for differences, and love for nature.
Golden Aspen Bilingual Early Learning Center will operate in an Episcopal Church in Gunbarrel, CO.
What is the purpose of this loan?
This loan is essential because it will help us hire a local employee. This will allow us to receive more children and serve more families in the community. We are also applying for this loan because we need to buy equipment and pay for the business's insurance. Last, we plan to make improvements in the playground, which is an important area of a preschool because, in early childhood, it is precisely through playing and social interaction that children develop motor, social and emotional skills that will be useful in their future.

Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
"N/A" means the Lending Partner disburses loans to borrowers in USD so their loans are not subject to any currency fluctuation.
Do Kiva borrowers pay any interest on their loans?
Our partners collect interest from borrowers because there are many operational expenses associated with microfinance in developing markets, especially in rural areas. Many of Kiva's Lending Partners also provide additional services alongside their loan products such as business training, financial literacy lessons, or health services.
Kiva will not partner with an organization that charges unreasonable interest rates, and we require Lending Partners to fully disclose their rates. In addition, we only partner with microfinance institutions and organizations that have a social mission to serve the poor, unbanked, and underserved.
