A loan helped a Filipina woman fulfill a dream of starting an artisan ice cream business inspired by Mom.

Girlie's story

My love for ice cream is tied with my sweet memory of my beloved Mother, who just recently passed. Ever since I was a child, I remembered going to Baskin Robbins on weekends and having ourselves a treat - Baseball Nut ice cream was our favorite.

As I became an adult, my shared love of ice cream with my Mom grew even more profound. We made it a goal to visit local small business-owned ice cream shops whenever we travelled, whether locally, nationally, or internationally. This intensified during the pandemic when we would go on road trips and make pit stops for ice cream. We got a thrill out of tasting all those unique, one-of-a-kind, artisan flavors - no plain vanilla or chocolate in those places.

As an adult, I quickly realized my love for ice cream has a lot to do with memories I shared with my Mom - a bonding moment for us.

My treasured memories and my Mom’s passing inspired me to pursue what I love and passionate about and at the same time, honor my Mom’s memory. I want to create artisan ice cream flavors that are special and unique, inspired by those ice cream flavors my Mom and I loved.

I will only use locally sourced organic ingredients to help local farms and do good for the environment. My ice cream will be offered at pop-up stores, smorgasbord markets, and specialty gourmet stores. The goal is to eventually open a brick-and-mortar ice cream store so everyone can enjoy my ice cream at any time.
