Benkadi Group's story

The Benkadi group is composed of four women lving in Kimparana, in the San prefecture. They are all married, and average 45 years of age and at least 8 children. The members of the Benkadi group sell condiments, fabrics, jewelry and miscellaneous goods. In order to increase the scope of their business, they have decided to join the Soro Yiriwaso credit program five years ago. The group is now on its eighth loan.

Sitan K. plans to use her loan to purchase 10 boxes of Maggi bouillon cubes, 15 bags of dried gumbo, five 50-kg bags of table salt and three baskets of pepper. She buys her stock from wholesalers and sells retail for cash to a customer base composed mainly of women. She hopes to achieve monthly revenue of 41,250 West African Francs. Besides repaying her loan, she will use part of her revenue to pay her daughters’ wedding trousseau and other family expenses.

The members of the Benkadi family have a goal of increasing their working capital and diversifying their merchandise.
