A loan helped to purchase more seeds to plant.

Jamiira's story

Jamiira, aged 40, lives in the town of Kangulumira in the Mukono region of Uganda. She is married and has 10 children, seven of whom are currently in school. For the past 16 years, Jamiira has been working hard to manage her farming business, growing crops of maize and beans.

To help expand her business, Jamiira has requested a loan of 1,500,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more seeds to plant so she can sell the produce. This will help her to generate greater profits and improve her family's standard of living by providing enough food. In the future, Jamiira hopes that she will be able to buy land and build a house of her own.

Jamiira is a member of BRAC's microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Jamiira who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but who have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
