A loan helped to buy more stationery items for the shop.

Ruth Nalweyiso's story

Ruth Nalweyiso is 30 years old and lives in the town of Makindye in the Makindye region of Uganda. She is married and has 4 children with 3 of them currently in school. For the past 6 years, Ruth Nalweyiso has been working hard to manage her stationery shop where she sells books, reams of paper and other stationery items.

To help expand her business, Ruth Nalweyiso has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more stationery items for the shop, and will help Ruth Nalweyiso to generate greater profits.

The loan will increase her source of income, help her pay school fees and provide for other basic family needs. Ruth Nalweyiso hopes that in the future she will be able to hope to own her own bookshop.

Ruth Nalweyiso is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small Group members like Ruth Nalweyiso who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
