A loan helped a minority woman-owned education-based cleaning business buy equipment, marketing, and supplies to grow.

Helen's story

I was born in Raleigh and raised in Chinatown, New York City. I became self-sufficient straight out of high school. I learned how valuable it is to learn and develop a trade, which created many opportunities throughout my life. I began my entrepreneurship journey in New York City at a Vocational Highschool. I graduated and held a Cosmetology License for a while. I believe that if we get back to trades, apprenticeships, and on-the-job training, it would not only teach people how to work, but they can learn to love the work.

Construction Cleaners LLC came about when I lost my income during the Covid pandemic. It turned my life upside down, but perhaps in a good way. I always wanted to do this type of work, and maybe, it was life telling me it was the right time. I lost my full-time position, and I lost my part-time hair business. We started Construction Cleaners in August of 2020.
